The search for the next Zest Quest Asia champion continues, with Tilda Foodservice joining Cyrus Todiwala in the drive to encourage colleges to enter the 2019 competition.
Launched to inspire catering students across the UK to consider Asian cookery as a future career, Zest Quest Asia recognises outstanding talent, knowledge and understanding of the cuisine. Tilda Foodservice, a gold sponsor of the competition – is urging colleges to enter before the 5th November 2018 deadline.
Along with a once in a lifetime star prize of a culinary trip to an Asian capital, Tilda’s ‘Best Use of Rice’ category offers an all-expenses paid package to London. The trip will include a visit to Tilda’s state-of-the art rice mill, an overnight stay at the brand new, Hilton Curio in Canary Wharf, as well as a 5-course dinner at either Mr Todiwala’s Kitchen – the hotel’s signature restaurant – or Cafe Spice Namaste – the Todiwalas’ landmark East London restaurant.
The educational prize will prove invaluable to both the winning college and students looking to develop their knowledge of Asian cuisine, and in particular the role of speciality rice in creating award-winning dishes.
Speaking about the competition, Annette Coggins, Head of Foodservice, Tilda UK says:
“Tilda has been a proud supporter of Zest Quest Asia since its launch six years ago and we are delighted to have partnered with Cyrus for this exclusive prize. Knowledge of Asian cookery can offer many benefits and it is important that our next generation of chefs understand this. It is an exciting and vibrant cuisine to cook, and reflects many of the major food trends our student chefs will be confronted by when they leave college. We are urging colleges to inspire their students to enter today so they can reap the benefits in the future.”
Cyrus and Pervin Todiwala founded Zest Quest Asia in collaboration with the Master Chefs of Great Britain, to inspire students across the UK to consider Asian cookery as a future career. In so doing, the competition aims to help stem the skills shortage in Asian cuisine threatening the £4 billion Asian food industry, as well as encourage educationists to include classical Asian cookery in the curriculum.
Speaking of Tilda’s support Cyrus said:
“Zest Quest Asia is an exciting and challenging competition for student chefs who dare to be the best in Asian cuisine. We are very proud of having Tilda as a Gold Sponsor again this year. They have been invaluable supporters from the very beginning. With sponsors like Tilda behind us, we have been able to make a difference simply by making students and teachers aware of the depth of skills and knowledge that go into preparing good Asian food.
“Students who become adept at Asian cuisine in Britain are the pioneers and ‘disruptors’, choosing something outside the normal comfort zone of classical Western cookery. In addition, they are helping their careers too, because more than ever palates are yearning for Asian flavours. I strongly urge colleges, big and small, to enter Zest Quest Asia. On top of everything, you will be making a big difference to the student experience.”
With past winners enjoying trips to Mumbai, Colombo, Bangkok, Tokyo (and Osaka) and Hanoi, the top prize promises to be more spectacular than ever. The winners’ destination is a closely guarded secret, revealed only at the final cook off and gala dinner held on Friday, 8th February 2019 at the Hilton London Heathrow Airport Terminal 5.
To date, five colleges and universities have been crowned Zest Quest Asia champions: University of Westminster, Farnborough College, Milton Keynes College, University College Birmingham, and current champions University of West London.
The deadline for entries is Monday, 5th November 2018, with the shortlist revealed in early December. Tickets for the glittering Gala Dinner are available at £85pp or £750 for a table of ten. For more information, contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
