Vanavond gebakken rijst maken? Check ons handige stappenplan en zorg altijd voor een fried rice met de perfecte smaak en structuur.

With this step-by-step plan you can always make delicious fried rice:

1. Cook the rice according to the package directions and let it cool (see tips below). Meanwhile, cut your meat, tofu, and vegetables into small pieces.
2. Heat a dash of oil in a wok or large frying pan over high heat.
3. Cook the meat or tofu until cooked through, remove from the pan, and set aside. Then, fry the beaten eggs (if using) and remove them from the pan as well. Finally, cook the vegetables until cooked through but still slightly crispy.
4. Add the rice and mix well with the vegetables. Add the meat, tofu, and/or eggs back to the pan and mix well.
5. Season with soy sauce or other herbs and spices. Stir constantly to prevent the rice from sticking. Serve with, for example, spring onion rings, sesame seeds, or cashews.

Why should you make fried rice with cooled rice?

Good fried rice is made with cooled rice. This affects the flavor and texture of your dish. Freshly cooked rice is still moist and a bit sticky. If you then fry it, you’ll end up with lumps. You don’t want that.

Letting the rice cool first helps it dry out a bit. The grains then firm up and no longer stick together. That’s precisely why we like to use leftover or day-old rice.

5 tips for making fried rice

These tips make making fried rice even easier. And tastier.

  • Want to cool your rice quickly? Spread it out on a baking sheet. That’ll speed things up a bit. You can also put your rice in a small bowl, dish, or container and soak it in cold water.
  • Chop your meat and vegetables finely. This way, they cook faster and don’t lose as much moisture, keeping your fried rice nice and dry.
  • Use a hot pan to make fried rice. Turn the heat up to high. This will keep your ingredients nice and crispy and the rice firm. Be sure to stir constantly.
  • Do you have different vegetables that require different cooking times? Add the harder ingredients to the pan first and cook the softer vegetables a little later. This way, everything cooks in time and you preserve the texture best.
  • Less is more when making fried rice. It’s all about the rice, so don’t add too many other ingredients.
