What is star anise and how do I use it?

Star anise is shaped like an eight-pointed star and contains seeds with an aniseed flavour.
METHODS
Star anise is used widely in Chinese cooking. Commonly found in powder form as well as in it’s beautiful star shape, star anise is one of the five spices in Chinese five-spice powder. A delicious way to use this aromatic spice is to try infusing it with your Basmati rice whilst cooking to add a subtle hint of liquorice to your dish.
