We use DNA fingerprinting to test our Basmati rice for purity, as we believe only Pure Basmati has that tantalizing flavour and magical aroma.
Naturally sun-kissed, matured grains for exceptional taste. Broken grains that release starch and make the rice clumpy are removed to ensure a light, fluffy texture – Pure Basmati is simply full of natural goodness and combined with a few simple cooking steps, it will always be perfect pure grains.

The name Basmati comes from the Sanskrit word ‘vasmati’ meaning fragrant. In ancient Indian writings it was described as having “an aroma of sun-baked wood and meadow flowers”.
That distinct aroma is enhanced by the fact that we age our Basmati for months before milling. This gives it a deeper, richer and nuttier taste. It also means that when our rice is cooked small pores are opened in the surface of the grain that allow it to absorb the flavours of your meal.
Basmati is known as a super grain. It is gluten-free, low in fat, contains your essential amino acids, folic acid, very low in sodium, and no cholesterol.
Basmati is also a low to medium GI food, which means energy is released at a slower, steadier rate and gives a more balanced level of energy, keeping you fuller for longer.
Basmati is grown in the foothills of the Himalayas and we ensure only the finest Basmati makes it into Tilda bags. Using our over half a century of experience and expertise, we DNA fingerprint test every batch of Basmati to guarantee purity, age the Basmati naturally in the sun and, in the gentle milling process, remove starch-releasing broken grains that cause rice to be sticky.
Nothing is wasted as broken and discoloured grains that have been removed are used for animal feed. Our standards are that only the very highest standards are acceptable

Over the last 50 years we’ve learned a lot about Basmati rice, and about how to create nutritious tasty recipes that bring its natural goodness to life.
Tilda started out back in the 70s, selling Basmati to Asian families who had moved to the UK. Five decades later, we’re still by far the most popular rice brand for this most discerning group.
Our product range has changed a little over the years with microwavable steamed rice and a range of world food inspired recipe packs. But our original focus remains true… to bring you the finest Basmati, and create recipes that are healthy, delicious, versatile and inspire your imagination.
