There is a wide range of unique proteins, peptides and phytonutrients contained within them too.<\/p>\n<p>They make a great healthy snack, lightly steamed and served with a pinch of salt and chilli flakes or added to stir frys and salads.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Chickpeas<\/strong><br \/>Chickpeas are packed with insoluble fibre, which helps maintain a healthy gut and contain plenty of antioxidants, which help prevent cell damage. Studies have also shown that eating more chickpeas improves insulin function and blood sugar regulation.<\/p>\n<p>Chickpeas are incredibly versatile; you can add them to curries, stews and salads and they\u2019re the key ingredient for hummus and falafel.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Black beans<\/strong><br \/>Just one serving of black beans provides around a third of your daily protein requirement. They\u2019re also great for keeping your joints and heart healthy, thanks to the omega 3 fats they provide.<\/p>\n<p>Black beans are the perfect way to make your chilli go further, especially when combined with a few squares of dark chocolate. They\u2019re also delicious in curries.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Split peas<\/strong><br \/>Full of cholesterol-lowering fibre, an excellent source of important minerals and hormone balancing, all in one, there are plenty of ways split peas can improve your diet.<\/p>\n<p>Split peas are perfect for adding to stews and soups to add bulk and texture.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Pinto beans<\/strong><br \/>Pinto beans contain certain phytonutrients, which have been shown to be helpful in the prevention of certain cancers, including stomach cancer. They provide a great source of protein, copper, potassium, iron and more.<\/p>\n<p>They\u2019re great when mashed and refried or used to make your own healthy version of baked beans.<\/p>\n\n
